Hello and welcome to the Y5/6L page.
So far this term, we’ve taken our ‘Food Glorious Food’ topic a little outside the box, by looking at the musical the song is from: Oliver!
We’ve been looking at why these boys were so desperate for food and exploring life for children in the Dickens era, focusing on ‘The Waterbabies’ and ‘Oliver’ for our Literacy work.
The corridor leading to our Y5/6 classrooms looks fab, with diaries of chimney sweeps, paintings of Victorian children at work, the biography of John Cadbury and various Oliver characters, adorning the walls.
Our topic work has led us down various routes, most recently focusing on the elaborate, indulgent food of rich Victorians, compared with the day-to-day food of poor folk. We will be designing our very own Victorian restaurant menu in the coming weeks.
We will also be designing and making our own cereal bar as part of our Design Technology work.
Throw in a trip to Carlton Outdoor Education Centre for Year 6, the first characters for our big school performance (Oliver, of course!!) being selected and various sports and chaplaincy outings, and this half term has already proved to be packed full of fun and activity.
Who knows what next half term and the lead-up to Christmas will bring…?!
Watch this space!
