Year 1
Miss L Westwood
In Year 1 we are working hard and enjoying learning lots of new things. This term our topic is ‘Dungeons and Dragons’, and we have been learning all about castles from the past, and how these are very different to our homes of today. We have read lots of dragon stories and poems, and used these to write some of our own.
We have used the laptops to draw our own castles – we worked very carefully and produced some excellent pictures! We have also made castles using collage and paint.
We all work very hard with our reading, writing and Maths, and are getting much more confident. We enjoy doing lots of practical activities, and especially like using our interactive whiteboard to help us!
Year 2
Mrs K Raitano
Year 3
Mrs B Hutchinson
Class 3 H are very busy in literacy with story writing using time
connectives and powerful adjectives. Our favourite author is Roald Dahl and
we are reading George's Marvellous Medicine. We are enjoying food technology
lessons with Mrs Brewster, we made some very tasty tomato pasta and tried
lots of Italian breads. P.E is great fun too, we are learning to dance.
Zumba is fab! Soon our mum's and dad's will be coming to watch our assembly
so we are rehearsing hard!
Many Thanks,
Mrs Hutchinson
Year 3/4
Mrs R Nestor
This term, we’re really enjoying our topic ‘All Roads Lead to Rome’.
So far, we’ve learnt about the Romans as invaders and why they invaded our country,
as well as brushing up on our map skills and learning the names and locations of different European countries. As part of our Literacy work, we are studying a book called, ‘The Captive Celt’, which is all about a Celtic slave who ends up in Rome. We’ll be writing our own story in the coming weeks, following lots of story mapping and drama, which we really enjoy.
We’re looking forward to learning more about the Roman way of life
and about the centurions and gladiators, which is a little more gory…take a look at this:

Luckily, our teacher is a little less gruesome than this!
We’ve really enjoyed Golden Time too. We’re going all Italian and learning how to make different foods. Last week it was bruscetta (which was delicious) and this week we are making aragostine (meaning crab claw) pastries. It’s great to try new things and find out we actually love things we didn’t even think we liked!
In the next few weeks, our iPod project will take off and we will be using iPods to develop our ICT skills, as well as explore other areas of the curriculum. We look forward to showing off our work very soon. Watch this space!
Year 4/5
Mr M Joyeux
Greetings to year 4/5Jx! We've settled into the new year with new haircuts, shiny shoes and brand spanking new pencil cases - time for some hard work! We'll be working super hard in Year 4 this year learning about the Tudors and improving our writing, reading and all things mathematical! High hopes and expectations abound in Year 4. The boys and girls will be making their first Holy Communion this half term.
As always, I'll be pushing the boys and girls to get more active and into some X-Country so dark PE colours are a must! I'm already looking forward to standing in a cold, wet field in March watching the children compete!
Yours in SMC
Mr Joyeux
Year 5
Mr S Hill
A very warm welcome to Y5H! We have all settled in to our new class very nicely and Mr Hill tells us that we have all worked very hard so far this term. Our topic until Christmas is 'The Road to Rome', and we are all really looking forward to learning about how the Romans lived all those years ago.
Already in geography, we have learnt about the different continents and we can position some European countries on a map.
In Literacy, we have been learning how to punctuate our sentences correctly; some of us can even use commas to separate clauses in more complex sentences.
Please keep visiting our class page throughout the year, as we will keep you updated about how we are getting on during our time in Y5.
God bless,
Mr Hill
