Dear Parents,

Last weekend’s cold weather made for a disappointing Bank Holiday—let’s hope for some warmth and sunshine in the days and weeks ahead!

Year 6 are ready for their big week, and we wish them all the very best for their SATs. A big thank you, too, to all members of staff who have supported their preparation, and ‘gone that extra mile’!

KS1 children are also busy with their assessments, and all other children will be being assessed over the next few weeks. Busy, busy!

Try to ensure your children are well rested and nourished, and not over anxious!

God bless,
Mrs Johnson

April Newsletter 2

Dear Parents,
I hope you’ve all had a lovely Easter. Here we are back for our third and final term. How time passes!

At last, we have experienced some sunshine, even if the temperatures are not soaring! It is lovely to see the children in summer uniform. Please remember our uniform policy, including the correct footwear.

School council, and family questionnaires have identified the desire for shade/shelter outside, and funds have been set aside for this. Plans are being drawn up and shelters will be constructed as soon as is practicable. Please start thinking now about protecting your children from the sun i.e. shoulders covered, hats/caps and sun cream.

We have had ’Mr Skippy’ in school over these last 2 days— no doubt you’ve heard all about it. The children have enjoyed their sessions of fun and fitness. Hopefully, this will be sustained at playtimes!
God bless,
Mrs Johnson

April Newsletter 3

Dear Parents,
Hasn’t it been lovely to experience some sunshine!
Looking ahead, we need to be mindful of safety in the sun…

There are already plans to build a shelter in the playground, which will provide shade.

Our uniform supplier can supply plain purple caps or gold safari caps (with the neck cover), which are adjustable, for only £2 each. There are samples in the school office if you’d like to look at them.

Thanks to all who supported our Grand Draw. A letter will be circulated next week, with the winners announced.

God bless,
Mrs Johnson

April Newsletter 4

Dear Parents,
Thank you for supporting our Grand Draw. You should have received a letter listing prize winners—most have been claimed already. Well done to those of you who won a prize!

It is a busy term ahead, and I will post significant dates as soon as I can for you—most are listed on this newsletter.

Mrs Wilson (nee Hansell) is leaving us this weekend, for her maternity leave. We wish her well and look forwards to some lovely news next month!
God bless,
Mrs Johnson

St. Margaret Clitherows leads the way with Next Generation Learning PDF Print E-mail

St. Margaret Clitherows leads the way with Next Generation Learning

St. Margaret Clitherows in South Bank has signalled its commitment to its pupils  by signing up to a new charter that pledges to improve the way technology is used to give pupils an enriched and enhanced learning experience. The Next Generation Learning Charter was launched by Becta, the government’s agency for technology in education.

This means St. Margaret Clitherows is leading the way and making a commitment to improving learning for pupils through the use of technology (including computers and laptops) in lessons. There is strong evidence to show that when technology is used effectively in schools, it can help to motivate and excite pupils, and raise attainment.

Over the coming months, St. Margaret Clitherows will be using the self-review framework – an online tool designed to help schools review their technology use in a structured way, which will in turn help inform their overall school improvement strategy and plans. Using the self-review framework will help St. Margaret Clitherows move towards gaining Becta’s prestigious ICT Mark – the national standard in the use of technology across all aspects of school life, including student assessment, teaching and learning, and the development of staff, leadership and management.

Stephen Crowne, Chief Executive of Becta, said:
“Technology in the classroom is no longer a distant dream – technology is part of everyday life for us all, and schools need to ensure they don’t get left behind. The Next Generation Learning Charter will help thousands of schools develop their use of technology across the school, so we have a world class education system where all young people are inspired and motivated”.

Mrs Johnson, Head teacher at St. Margaret Clitherows said,
“We are delighted to have signed up to the Next Generation Learning Charter. It is a brilliant way for us to show pupils, parents and the wider community that we are committed to using ICT in the best way we can. We know we can do more with technology to help our pupils progress and achieve – and now we have the help we need to get there.”

St. Margaret Clitherows will follow Becta’s guidance to help them in purchasing good value software and equipment, and Becta’s advice on how technology can be used to improve communication with parents, so they are more involved in their children’s education.
